Came to visit Boyana Church after many years with family and friends from abroad. It is a small church beautifully nested at the feet of the mountain Vitosha in the outskirts of Sofia in the marvelous Boyana neighborhood. It is a pinnacle of the Bulgarian Medieval Art and protected UNESCO World Heritage place. The church was built in the 10th century and then followed an addition in the 18th century. The Boyana Church is known for the frescoes with very vivid colors, as well as for paintings of the last supper and different saints. For the first time in the Art of painting murals and portraits of alive people (Sevastocrator Kaloyan and his wife Desislava). The style of painting is characteristic with the paintings of the face and body in tri-dimentional fashion instead of two-dimentional, which started a new trend in painting murals. The frescoes are very well preserved. Only groups of 8 people are allowed inside with a guide. He is not telling anything to the visitors...if you ask, he will answer. Stay inside is only 10 minutes for 10 Leva. Taking pictures inside the church is prohibited. You can buy tickets at the entrance of the church. It is 10 lv/ per adult: expensive con sidering they do not allow taking pictures. The garden is lovely, and the whole place has unique spirit and energy. Would recommend as a must-see place.
