Apply for the Albania Digital Nomad Visa in 2024: A Step-by-Step Guide
The recent introduction of the Unique Permit visa system has significantly simplified the visa application process. You can now complete your application online and do not need to make duplicate applications to a number of different agencies. Applications can be made in Albanian or English.
Your attachments should be formatted as PDFs to be uploaded via the online portal and should be submitted in Albanian or English. Documents in another language should include an official translation.
The required documents include:
- Valid travel document
- Passport photo
- Employment contract or service contract
- Proof of professional capacity
- Proof of financial self-sufficiency
- Document certifying accommodation in Albania
- Evidence of valid bank account in Albania
- Evidence of health insurance valid for Albania
- Proof of clean criminal record
Step 2: Register and Complete Application
Begin your application journey through the Albanian e-visa portal! First, register with your name and email address by clicking the registration button at the top right corner of the screen. This step can be completed in either English or Albanian.
Once you're ready to proceed, click "Apply Now" to access the e-visa options. Select the Type D visa and then choose the digital mobile worker option from the list of available visas. This will direct you to an online application form, where you can provide the required information and submit your application.
Once you have completed these sections, you will be directed towards the payment portal. You can make your payment online via credit card.
The visa fee is based on reciprocity, which means that the cost of the visa is determined by how much an Albanian would have to pay to apply for a visa in your country of residence.
You must pay the fee within 15 days of submitting your documents or your application will be automatically rejected.
- Register on Albanian e-visa portal
- Fill out online application form
- Provide personal, passport, and visa information
- Upload required documents
- Pay visa fee online
Step 3: Wait for Visa Approval
Once you have completed the application, you will receive a tracking number which will allow you to monitor the progress of your application online. The new law requires that you receive the results of your application within 12 weeks, and you may receive information in as little as 15 working days.
Upon approval, you'll receive a confirmation email with an e-visa attachment. This digital document serves as proof of your valid visa and temporary residence in Albania. When arriving in Albania, present the e-visa to immigration officers, who will then stamp your passport accordingly. This e-document is your official visa confirmation, allowing you to enter and reside in Albania for the authorized period.
- Receive tracking number to monitor application progress
- Wait for approval (within 12 weeks)
- Receive e-visa email if approved
Step 4: Renew Visa (Optional)
Should you wish to extend your stay beyond the initial year, you'll be able to submit a renewal application through the same online portal, once the renewal feature becomes available.
Note that the visa renewal option is currently not live on the Albanian e-visa website. However, once activated, you'll be able to renew your visa for an additional five years, paving the way for eligibility to apply for permanent residence in Albania.
- Renew visa through same portal (feature not yet live)
- Visa can be renewed for up to five years
- Eligible to apply for permanent residence after five years
